Re: [gremlintime] rear end question?

Parts are available for the Model 20 thanks to the Jeep guys. You can buy
lockers, gears and solid axles, all you have to do is look at a current issue
of any 4wd magazine and you will find lots of vendors for that rear.

The 343 is a good running engine that makes good power but you are limited
in transmission choices unless you buy an adapter to fit a late model
automatic to it or use a manual trans. They have about 10:1 compression in
4bbl form and make 280hp. The 2bbl compression is just a little lower. IIRC

The main drawbacks to using a 343 is the transmission problem stated above
and the lack of the better flowing late model Dog-Leg heads

If the price is right, it would make a good choice for your Gremlin. (Just
ask Bart) (If you are nice maybe he will tell you how he bolted his to a
late model trans without an adapter)

Subject: [gremlintime] rear end question?

Hey guys. I just found out that the Gremlin V8 rear end is a model
#20 and the 4 and 6 bangers are model #15. I have been told that the
#20 came out with 4.10 and other assorted gears as well as a limited
slip. Whats the deal with em? Is this true or not? And can you still
buy posi units and various gears for them? I want to buy one to swap
out my weaker unit, so the width will fit right under my car. Also,
to everyones delight I am going through the ads to try to find me a
pure 100% AMC motor. now that I found some ads and different websites
I seem to be running into a lot for sale. Can anyone tell me what a
343 motor is? What did it comr from? how good is it? Thanks all,
GREMLINMAN
