Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Detailed

Well I got the Gremlin back today. I was impressed. I have done the same thing the last 15 years and while I could get it to shine under the wax it looked like crap. Well he got about 80% to 90% of the crap under the wax off of it. If I had to judge it now on a scale of 1-10 With 10 being a new car paint job. I would give it a 7+. I think that is pretty good for 32 year old paint. He had it out in his front yard when I got there and from about 10 foot it looked like a new car. When I got it home I saw some places here and there but for what he had to work with I am still happy. He said the Cordoba wax he put on it won't last forever and that is what he would suggest I wax it with it in a couple of months or for about $30 he would me more and glad to do it and he wouldn't have it very long at all. If you know me you know I am a tight ass but when I saw it I gave him a $100. Just a few more things and I will be ready.

I acquired my Gremlin in November of last year and it is the Hugger Orange or whatever it is called. I detailed it myself and I am 61 years old also. After about one and one half weeks It was detailed as good as a professional. But it was about 2 to 3 weeks after before I could walk or stand straight up enough to enjoy my work. I was very happy when the pain left my body and now it stays locked in a covered shop on days that it might get dirty so I won't have to go through that again.

I took my Gremlin to a detailing shop today to get an estimate. I guess I am getting old but I got tired of spending 4 or 5 hours on it and it still looking like crap when I got done so I decided to let a professional give it a shot. Well I was expecting to spend a small fortune on it if they would even try. I figured $150 to $200. Well after he looked at it told me all what he was going to do he said since it was small and it had that black primer half way up the doors it would be $75. I almost crapped in my paints. Now that is not the interior or the engine bay it is just the red paint. That is all I really cared about. Now the paint is in pretty bad shape so I am not expecting miracles but for $75 if it has a shine to it I will be happy. You know I guess I will miss the pride of doing it myself and 17 years  ago I wouldn't have thought about paying someone for working on the Gremlin. Now that I am 61 the thrill of working on it has gone out the window. Instead a feeling of accomplishment all I get is tired, sweaty, hot and aches and pains all over. All i want to do is drive it now and if I could find a good looking 25 year old to drive it for me I wouldn't even do that. Of course if I found a 25 year old that would do that I would have to take out a second mortgage on my home to pay the stud for keeping  her happy.
