Years ago I wrote a story about Cuban cars, as I think it is fascinating
that there are so many nice 1940s/50s examples still plowing around in Cuba in
2009. Since no parts rediliy avialable for that model, the people have
bastardized them for lack of better word, but kep them on the road and looking
great in the decades since. Some have Soviet engines, other upgraded to 'modern'
drivetrains while keeping their cosmetics intact. This is a neat site (not the
original from the early 90s) showing many good looking Cuban cars
Collectibility. People collect all sorts of stuff, some worth money down
the road, other times Enron stock. As time goes on and more and more companies
stop making stuff for our AMCs due to no demand, stuff we sort of have I guess
always taken for granted like suspension or brake parts, or engine parts (the
Federal Mogul/Badger piston scenario quickly comes to mind) we will probably
have to Cubanize our cars. That is make do with what is out there or bastardize
them. Sure, few AMCs that remain are "stock" even hig dollar rotisserie examples
have some Chinese made things on them, but they look good!
