Vinyl roofs are big sponges if you are in a area of the country with high
humidities year round. Down here it is death knell for a vehicle to have vinyl
roof. Even if your car is garaged it has to come out sometimes, work, play,
whatever, but it can shortent the life of a vehicle, new or old, to have vinyl
roof as the moisture simply has it's way with it.
The Mopar here I looked over at a classic car lot, it once had a vinyl roof
as you can see. The Maxi Blue 74 AMX shown here has the original vinyl roof, and
under the vinyl is a mess of bubbles, it looks great from 10 feet, but run your
hand over roof is like running hand over Manuel Noriega's face. The yellow 69
Ambassador here I stripped off the original green vinyl roof (yes, it was one of
those AMCs that Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder did the color combo; yellow paint,
green top and interior!) but pulled it off sanded it, filled it sanded it again
then POR-15ed it and looked great as you can see. The guy who bought it for $950
drives it daily in Pflugerville, Texas, and the fake vinyl roof still looks
great.
Groan.......hey Bart, a quick google search for 'Rambler Mentality' pulled
up a small obscure file on my site, however this thread is #3 in world, hope
some soviets don't get any ideas:
