There are a whole variety of reasons here. One of them is the reason you
don't see hemi this and that at major drag events. And if you do, display only.
Another reason is why you never see anything Nash at events, those folks don't
want to put their car in 80 mph traffic with people who are here illegally, pick
one: don't have valid license or insurance, passport, and rims on their Hyundai
or Kia are worth more than the vehicle. I DRIVE nothing but AMC vehicles daily
in Houston, Texas, and have driven nothing but AMC since got driver license in
76(?) or so. Whether it is a rotisserie restored AMX or resto/mod, regardless of
what others are driving, I drive at or slightly above the speed limits. Have not
gotten a ticket since AMC last put a V8 in their production vehicles. (1979).
But some of these folks in the hot rods, restored cars, muscle cars, ect, just
like to enjoy them. Just because you have 1000hp Hennessey Viper (they build
them here about 10 miles from me) don't mean you are zipping around at 200mph,
of which it could do and then some. Not that one could do 200mph in Houston
traffic, that is like wiping one's ass before they shit.
It's like all those folks who thru the decades see my AMCs (pick one) when
coming out of club, restaurant, wherever and want me to spin the tires. I say,
no because I have $1K of meat on back and don't want to waste it in parking lot.
Sometimes one has a big gear in back, there used to be a friend of mine in
Corpus Christi who has a bear of a 69 Camaro. You just remember to turn off on
side streets in your anything if you saw him coming down street. However, get
him on SPID (south padre islande drive) and his ass was your's as he could not
hit 70mph without red lining, i believe he had 5:00-5:10 rear in it, yikes, stay
off highway, even homeless people with shopping carts full of belongings and two
dogs would pass him.
But there are a whole slew of reasons why people only bring out their cars
on Sundays, or drive 60mph, or take back roads, but can tell you the reasons are
as varied as the different cars themselves.
