Not really AMC related, but seeing two icons pass away on same day many of us remember was harsh. First Farrah Fawcett.....for whatever it is worth, she was born in my hometown, Corpus Christi, Texas, and graduated from the high school I 'attempted' to graduate from, W. B. Ray. Kids used to go by her house to check her out just because she was so pretty I understand. I never knew her nor even knew where she lived however down there. I can tell you I did have a Farrah poster and a tshirt with same poster design on it back in 1977 or so. And I drove a 70 Javelin, and that shirt probably got worn a lot. Eh, probably worn out a lot. As for Michael Jackson, when I moved to Houston in 1983, there was a high volume country and western club I was working at called Gabs. http://www.planethoustonamx.com/club/bar_1983_1.jpg We used to jokingly call it Stabs. But those folks take their C&W really seriously, so here is a long haired beach bum working there and had to sort of 'win them over' but eventually did without getting my ass kicked. MTV was in it's infancy then and after work, one is usually wound up, and hard to sleep, so would go home and sit around and watch videos. That Billie Jean video was facinating, and remember the beat, and I talked the DJ at Gabs into playing it telling him 'it would pack the dance floor' which all those boot scootin rednecks and cowboys, cowgirls loaded the dance floor and adapted their dances to it, quite interesting and add booze, well, even more interesting....but door broken and Billie Jean....became a 'staple' every nice from the DJ to load the dance floor. Sold more booze that way when people came off floor all sweaty and wanting another drink. With that in mind, a old friend stopped by yesterday I had not seen in 10 years, and we were shotting the BS when word came over wire that MJ had died. I told him as morbid as it sounds, when something like this happens....I go quickly search ebay for that person's name. So Michael Jackson had been (announed) passing away all of 12 minutes and there was already a 'Michael Jackson, we remember you' bumper sticker on ebay. Probably a west coaster watching TMZ. 12 minutes and a auction for bumper sticker for dead dude. There was all of 2616 auctions up minutes after Michael died. When Dave, my buddy left 4 hours later we looked one more time and it was 7680 items. Now there are 27,902 items up, yikes, the autopsy not even in as people unload stuff for a buck. And on that note, since I work in Houston bars, there was NEVER a shortage of Michael Jackson jokes! Now that he is dead, lots more material for the customers! So if you like that scenario, here are a few good ones that popped up last night http://www.planethoustonamx.com/michaeljacksonjokes.htm AMC related: I had about 3 Michael Jackson 8 track tapes in my 70 Javelin which had a Kraco 8 track player in it. In my trunk had about 100 8 tracks....the usual staples, Foghat, Scorpions, Mahogany Rush, Triumph, Foreigner, Styx, Judas Priest, The Dream Weaver dude and Bee Gees for when I actually had a date in car, ect.
