I agree, I would use POR-15 on the old lady if she would let
me. You can also leave it black if need be. I used this on my 68 convertible
'Machine' back in 1987 when I was restoring it on several key areas like trunk.
I simply sanded, washed, let it dry, painted it on, let dry, then painted over
it with spray can Rally Green Metallic (68 AMC color) and rust has never come
back and a number of judges sheets mentioned trunk detail. Some, like the SC/360
I am fixing to put carpet in (can you believe NOT ONE place makes carpet for a
"4 speed" Hornet?? Yup, no Kennedy, APD, Galvin, ACC/Carpets, no major AMC
vendor and none of their suppliers, have to use AT/floor one and alter it!) but
have a bucket of POR-15 to lay down come spring on the floor of the Hornet
SC/360 then pads/carpet. Really good stuff, and there are a number of other
'rust preventives' out there however, I have used this stuff thru decades and it
works great.
