I used to get ticked off when people used to laugh at mine. I used to tell the kids I was going to bring my 38 with me and blow the hell out the next guy that laughed at it. I have mellowed out over the years. I have gotten so many I haven't seen one of those in years, nice car that it has more than made up for it. Like Eddie said I have learn that most of them are not laughing at the car but of their  memories. I firmly believe that every person above the age of 40 either owned a Gremlin, there best friend owned one or their parents owned one and everyone of these people have a story to tell. Just last night a couple was telling me that they had one and the wife and the two kids folded the back seat down and they slept all the way to Florida in it. They said they didn't have two nickels to rub together but they had a ball in their Gremlin. I also agree with Eddie  I love the fact when I go to the shows I know I am going to be the only Gremlin and most of the time the only AMC there  That is what makes it so enjoyable for me knowing I am showing kids what a Gremlin is and the fact I bring back so many memories for so many people. I hope if another Gremlin starts to show up it would give me a kick in the ass to fix mine up. I am afraid that the mystic would be gone and I would slowly quit going.

On the laughs, you must remember some of them were still dropping bondo in their daipers when these cars were new. Ignorance is bliss you know. I have found some people laughing thru the years, but most are laughing as they have great memories of something AMC. There are smiles, laughs, grins, thumbs up, waves, whistles, honks, I get shit like that daily in Houston driving any of my AMCs.

 

Some of my favorites is just last week a homeless fellow selling candies at Westheimer and Beltway 8, ultra busy intersection sees more than 150,000 cars plow thru it a day, but he was standing there and said "Ambassador!" "My dad had one with a 390V8 in it back in the early 70s, man, that son of a bitch was fast, and hot rodders would turn corners if they saw him coming knowing he would whip their ass!"

 

I gave him a buck and light turned green.

 

I won't even go into getting pulled over after shtting down the club at 3-4AM. Think about it. houston, Texas. 3-4 in the morning. Driving home, top down, 68 Rebel convertible rumbling down Memorial drive. you are in The Villages. If you fart and it smells wrong you get you ass pulled over and beat. Houses in the cheap range are $500K, some go to over $30 mil. But got pulled over a few times, and you talk about scared......only to have the constable come up and say "hey, neat car, whatcha got under the hood?" or "AMC Rebel, who makes that, have never seen one before!" Great icebreaker!!!

 

So enjoy being the only on there with a AMC. It is one of the reasons why we choose AMC...to be different!

Well, the weather finally cooperated and the wife and I took the Grublin to two cruise nights this weekend. Got lots of attention, some laughs from jerks, many stopped to ask where the hell I found a Gremlin!  Last night, 88 cars showed up and mine was the only AMC car. This evening, I traveled about 30 miles to another cruise night and the same deal again  - I had the only AMC there!
