 Or put the tranny on after which is what I do. I am so used to it I have the motor and tranny in in less then an hour. Once you have the engine bolted in you jack up the front of the engine to tilt it for easy access to install the tranny.

Or you could do what  my friend Todd did with his 74 Gremlin,he 'brace yourself'cut the middle out of his original V8 crossmember and made a removable brace to gain access to the bottum end when he needed to get there plus it makes instealling the engine much easier.
