Dan, I tried this type of spring over shock set up on my 72 Grem, and I was not happy. I took them back off within a month. The ride height did not really change and the ride quality went to hell, it was stiffer, harsh, you could really feel every bump in the road. The set up I bought was not the add on springs like I think you are talking about but mine were the spring/shock assembly together.
