Doc, I was just teasin' ya there. I know that your a very competent mechanic. You have been at it your whole life and I meant no disrespect from it. Please except my appolligy!! I know that when the time comes for me to hang up my keys, I will. I have been driving big truck for almost 5 years now and I have over 600,000 miles under my belt and all accident free. I dont brag about it, I know that there will be a day when it does happen. I have had many scary instences where skill over came the accident. Like where I had just gotten loaded in St. Paul MN. Came up on some construction and the dumb broad beside me sped up and then cut in front of me and slammed on the brakes. It was a good thing I was loaded with 45,000 pounds. If I hadnt of made a bee line for the yellow line that little car and the
dumb broad behind the wheel would of been post toasties. By the time I got stopped my right front wheel was at the front of her car. Scare me? Hell ya!! Scare the dummy behind the wheel of the other car? Hell ya! But ya have to be a defensive driver. Have I done "dirty" things behind the wheel of a big truck? Hell no! I have never cut someone off on purpose and caused an accident. I take my job as professionaly as I possibly can. All it takes is one driver to do somthing dirty and we all get the blame. I will admit that there are some people out there that shouldnt be behind the wheel of a 75 foot 40 ton truck. Its those who dont take there profession professionaly that cause the accidents. Bill Id.

No Bill I am not a genius, but I have been working on these cars my
whole adult life. 74 Hornet's especially and with so many parts used on
the Gremlin's my Hornet knowledge works on both cars. Eddie has been
preaching for years about sheet metal parts drying up and the high cost
of setting up a run for repo parts especially for Hornet's and Gremlin's
which are not exactly the high end high profile cars like Javelins &
AMX's. They were however AMC's bread and butter cars when the other AMC
lines turned out not to be big sellers such as the Pacer and the Matador
coupe. The Matador coupe looks like a nicer version of my 77 Malibu and
the Pacer was way ahead of it's time design wise. Me I prefer the Hornet
Hatchback, but that's just me. If you have the room and money save what
parts you can. My apartment, 2 car garage and rented storage space is
full. Speaking of people that can't or shouldn't be allowed to drive at
the nursing home my mother is at there was an accident involving an old
man that should not be driving. He backed out of a handicapped parking
spot in front of the entrance, jumped the curb went across an 8 foot
wide side walk through the front electronically controlled doors and
then another 10 feet into the second set of doors into the lobby mowing
down a resident in a wheel chair. Seniors call it senior bashing if you
would pass a law making them take a divers test at a certain age to see
if they could still drive competently. I am 59 and told the wife and
kids take the keys when you feel I can't drive properly any more. I will
properly put up a fight but I know they will do the right thing by
getting me off the road.

Thanks Doc, your a GENIUS!! You can trust me on one thing I will get all that I can off of the car before they crush it. And eventually they will. I knew that they had one, but I never really "looked" at it. I guess a person never really looks at things untill its needed. I plan on going back up there this morning to get the rest of the dash parts. Its totally unmolested, looks just like it did when it came of the assembly line. I will get those fenders thats a good idea, ya never know when a really-really-really-really old person is going to pull out in front of ya. Especially in the town I live in. Bout drives a man to drinkin'! Bill Id.

Bill on the headlight switch there is a spring loaded button on the side
of it. Hold the button in and pull on the knob. The knob and shaft will
come out in one piece. Then with a straight slot screw driver remove the
screw. On the wiper switch there is a little clip. Push it towards the
knob and the knob will pop off. Unfortunately the shaft is not
removable and you will need a small straight slot screw driver to get
the nut off. Bill you sure lucked out on getting all those parts so
cheap. Take Eddie's advice get any sheet metal parts you may need in the
future as they may be almost impossible to find in the future. I did and
I now have extra fenders, doors, a hood, bumpers, a grill, tail lights
with bezel and a ton of small parts. An un-butchered radio surround is
like gold. Most were butchered to put in aftermarket radios. The reason
I went for all the sheet metal parts is I have 2 of the same car. My son
asked why I bought all the extra parts that I really don't need at this
time. I may need then in the future and all I have to do is look in my
garage for them. :-)

Thanks Doc! I did find a good Hornet today and I got a bunch of parts off of it!! Its a 4 door SST, 1972, 258 inline and I have a good question for ya. I found the original AM radio and its got a spiders nest in the face of it. HOW IN THE HELL DO I GET IT OUT??? LOL!! I guess I could take it to a shop and have them tear into it and clean it up, but that costs money and I know those guys arent cheap. I guess I could try to clean it out, but thats like trying to send me to mars in a home made rocket ship! I'd be kind of lost in space. LOL! I also got the whole dash part that holds the speedo and gauges. I need to use the windshield wiper switch and I need to figure out how to get the knobs off so I can take off the main part of the dash. I got a complete set of hub caps, all four in excellent shape. Are the hub caps stainless steel? They did clean up really nice, but the paint that goes in the indentations on the outside of the cap is gone. Easy fix there. I also got a bunch of small parts and I am going up to get the rest of the dash here in the next couple of days. I will need it for my Gremlin. If your in need of any parts let me know and I will see if there is what ya need. What I dont need or want your open for them. Anyone here is open to them as far as that goes. The car only had 59,000 original miles on it. The auto tranny is still in it also. I even got the turn signal lamps off of the grille. It had been sitting in the back window for god knows how long and being a 72 its plastic, and it just fell apart! I could not believe how brittle that gille was. Its got some good fenders also. The headlight buckets where shot all to hell which was kind of a bummer. I am in need of one. You are right about the getting lucky Doc and I am willing to share the wealth with anyone here. Bill Id. OH YA! All the parts I got today cost me a whole 20 bucks! Its mouse free also. :)=

Nice find Bill on the tail light lenses. A lot of that old stuff is
still around in old AMC dealers that don't even know they have it and
are glad to get rid of it for a fair price. You just have to get lucky
at times.

I think anyway... I called my local AMC dealer. LOL!! They now sell
Subarus and I think Jeeps. I called for kicks a giggles to see if they
could locate a pair of N.O.S. tail lights for my newly aquired 70
Hornet. Low and behold, "ROLL ME IN SHEEP DIP AND COVER ME WITH BLOW
FLIES"!! The parts guy "found" ONE right side tail light, and a hole
butt load of left ones. At 41 bucks apiece I thought wasnt bad
considering the price for one on EVILBAY! Headed up today to "look" at
an old Hornet. I am in need of some parts, well, not me.... the car
is!
RAPE AND PILLAGE HE-HE!! (long evil laugh!) Bill Id.
