Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Ohio Nationals

Gary & Terry, this is a easy fix. And I'll be more than happy to comment on it having one nationals and 11 regionals under my big ass belt. One of the things I have always been most adamant about is giving the mommas and kiddies something ELSE to do besides car stuff. Some of us are up 96 hours straight planning this so this was easy. for instance when the Nationals was in Houston, it was 13 miles to NASA, so we got discount coupons for those who wanted to visit NASA which many did. spacen Center Houston is a huge attraction, and can easily take a whole day like visiting Smithsonian for instance. But it gives the ladies and young uns other stuff to do than be chained to a old car meet. And not all of them have our same interests either.

So simply plan around it. For instance in 99, Paige rented a car and her and other girlies went to the big Arch, zoo and duh, Bud Brewery up in St. Louis, and came back about 4:00pm. So it is a fine line to tread if you wish to stagger the meet with momma, and little ones if you have any.

Mu suggestion would to irst get ahold of the host chapter, which in this case is Ohio American Motors Classics. The chapter contact (who is probably taking a beating right now with calls and emails and trying to tie up all loose ends as meet looms) is Mike Turner, of whom I have copied this email to in case he has time to reply and comment. Mikes's email is mike6568@xxxxxxxxx (look Doc another webtv fella).

Possibly Mike can tell you if the host club has non-AMC activities like bus trip and what not for those who wish to simply break away and siscover what the host city has to offer. A lot of them did here in Houston, and Paige & me have done it every year we have went to a nationals in Kenosha too....find non-AMC stuff to check out, like museums.

Here is a list of Dayton attractions your wife, maybe even you, might find something interesting to check out:

My suggestion is to plan it, that way, you can go to meet, vend, judge, take photos, bull shit with other AMCers and so forth, and the other half can also enjoy her time in that host town or city. Keeps the Peace!

Terry, I've got a similar 'problem'. My wife will be coming with me (as she did to the AMO nationals in Lansing two years ago), but I'm sure she would rather hang out with someone other than my 'gearhead' friends. Maybe we can hook them up because I know my wife would rather not walk around the swap meet and show field for two days while I stop and talk to every other 'car' person there. I'll be using my car dolley to come down to Dayton, but will be driving around in the Gremmie when there, so any 'better halfs that don't want to 'cruise' can follow us in my wife's ride.

The more I think about it the more I like your idea of us getting together at
the Nationals. My better half say she is going but if it is like every thing
else concerning my hobbies I will be driving my Gremlin up to Dayton by myself
the Thursday before the show. Without her I will be looking for someone to
hang out with. Thinking about it with her I will still be looking for someone
to hang out with. LOL. Wondering how many will get there early and how many
are planning on going to the banquet Saturday night. I noticed AMO doesn't
have anything planned for Friday night. Maybe we could get together for a
burger, steak or something and go to a local cruise or something. If we could
get a few of us to go anywhere together in our cars we would draw a crowd.
