Hey Bill,
I think we might be doing the same thing. I'm reading
between the lines about what year you're restoring and
what year the grill is. You restoring an earlier
70-73 Gremlin?
I'm restoring a 72 but am taking some liberties with
it but will still be AMC. I pulled a later year
Gremlin X grill with the thought that I'd install that
without the front bumper. I'm not committed to that
but may do it just for grins. Both need some minor
repair so we'll see how they come out after being
painted.
In addition, I've got a set of AMX doors (correct
size) with power windows and door locks and the
wireing harness. I've removed the rear seat and will
deck in the back area and use the rear seat well for
under deck storage. I plan on getting a good sound
system which will be mounted back there though it will
not be the obnoxious boom box variety. Likely the
Sirrus/XM variety to avoid being bombarded with
advertising or pointless chatter.
I'm replacing the drums with power front disks,
installing power steering with tilt steering column
and am in the process of finding a T-5 transmission
(anyone have one to spare?) to replace the original
3spd. I'm replacing the original bench seat with
reclining buckets and am going to spray the interior
sheet metal with a thick layer of sound deadening
material before reinstalling the interior. I want to
quiet it down as much as possible.
I've analyzed my daily driving habits and rarely have
passengers so I've decided the eventual goal, if I
like the end result, is to restore the car to almost
newness and make it a 2 seat daily driver. I have a
94 Buick that I can not work on myself due to all the
computerization and want to go back to a simplistic
vehicle that I can work on myself. A dollar saved by
self sufficiency is a dollar better spent on something
else.
What are your plans with your?
