Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Door handles

Hello Doc. I hope your weather has slacked off, wouldn't want you to get cabin fever. Thanks for the heads up on the resto projects. I've had alot of parts chromed that I've made or altered but was unfamiliar with having stuff re chromed. How do I contact das mopar? I googled it and all I got was German sights.  LOL.  I'm glad to hear of the progress of your resto projects, are we going to get to see these cars? If you're going to the nationals you could crash here for a night and save youself some money as I'm in Mich. something to think about.  I just got a price from K.E. Binder, a local interior and top guy who's been in bus since the 40's around here to redo my front seat. He said about 450 to 550 and didn't seem too concerned about being able to get close to existing back seat. Says they have ton of materials and also could probably find the right stuff without much problem.  He even described the front seat to me with the built in headrest, sight unseen.  Heck I had to go to the garage to check. I will have him install new carpet as long as they have the seat out. Just got a spiffy new radio surround. some one cut out the dash to put a radio in,  Who would do that to a 32 year old car? I've been buying and stashing parts all winter, and now it looks like it's about time to get busy. The other sore spot is the door sills. I can't believe how beat to crap they are. I'll be gettin back to ya about that project although I saved you email about the process..  Anywho back at ya doc  Paul in Detroit

Don't waste your time new handles are still available from Das Mopar and
most AMC venders and probably way cheaper than having the originals
re-chrome'd. When a part is re-chrome'd it is chemically stripped of the
old chrome, nickel, and the copper base so sanding would be a waste of
time. On the tail light bezels after the chrome is chemically removed
the chrome shop might be able to polish out the pits or use more than
one layer of copper and then polish it out again to fill in the pits and
them chrome them, expensive. On the plastic lenses use a good quality
motor cycle windshield plexi-glass scratch remover then a polish. Good
luck on the rear bumper most of them the corners are rotted out. A
Hornet rear bumper from 74-77 and a rear bumper from a 78 Concord are
the same as your Gremlin.

Subject: [BaadAssGremlins] Door handles

Hello guys. I see some of you are around today. I've got a couple resto questions for ya. If I carefully remove the spring from my Gremmie door handles will the pin easilly slide out? Have extra set but they need work. I'm thinkin I should sand them smooth and send em to the chrome shop.  Also how does one go about restoren the chrome in the tail lights. Lenses are great but chrome is pitting. also need to put shine back on the marker lights on the sides in the rear.  The car is a 74..  Decided I'd better get busy or winter will be gone. One more thing for now, I am in need of a good quality rear bumper  Thanks to anyone who can help.  Paul
