I'm fine, here is a little story with some photos: http://www.planethoustonamx.com/just%20stuff/texas_vs_hurricane_rita_septembe.htm However, Rick and others just east of Houston took full brunt of Rita fury. Still have not heard from good AMC friend Jurl Davis in Jasper, which was hit especially hard. Granted, most of that area don't have electricity either, much less running water, and it is in thwe 'piney woods of Texas' as it is known, so lots of very tall pine trees. And when these fall they go thru a house, no matter how well built, like hot knife in butter. They also block roads and take out power lines. What is sad is if you have ever been to that beautiful part of the state (and also into SW Louisiana) it is some of the most beautiful area of the US. Tons of trees and brush. Lots of wild life. Louisiana is known as Sportsmans Paradise for good reason, but I can tell you fishing and hunting will cease for years in that SW area of the state, and many livelihoods depended on that like shrimping, fishing. As I watch Michael Brown, former head of FEMA testifying before Congress right now, go thru the motions and sharing blame, it is really a bummer to think that the strongest and most prosperous country in the world has no definitive plans to evacuate their cities and not much plans after that except red tape. I'm not sure what happened to all those poor bastards from New Orleans who evacuated to Houston only to find themselves a few weeks later evacuated again, and many of them seeing the reports of Rita heading into Texas, went back east, many into Beaumont, which got hit hard. Hope Rick is doing ok up there too, they got the brunt of this big storm.
