I love the attention I get when I drive my 78 Gremlin. People from all walks of life and in all sorts of cars rubberneck when they see me coming down the road. It's not mint, it's not all fixed up, but it's in good shape and I'm proud of it. The reactions vary from amazement -- "you just don't see those anymore!" to polite ridicule -- "did you know that was voted the worst car ever made?" to pure nostalgia -- "I remember being stuffed in the back seat of my aunt's gremlin with my cousins when I was a kid..." One lady next to me at a red light was laughing herself to tears looking at my car and it was ok. We met eyes and laughed together. I've had bikers almost fall off their motorcycles giving me big thumbs up while smiling and gawking on the highway. I'll take any of the attention. In this day and age so many people are driving cars that "define" them. Think of all those Hondas that are modified to look like... every other modified Honda. Those kids stop and stare too, because I've got one of the most unique vehicles in the state capital. The attention my car gets is overwhelmingly positive -- for whatever reason people are happy to see it on the road, even if they think it's a rolling junkyard compared to their ride. So this Saturday I'm hoping to ride out to the Wolfpack car show at the Litchfield Drive In (IL). It's not mint, it's not suped up, but it's in good shape and I'll make a few people's day by being there in the most functacular American car ever made. pax >>>>>>>>>> >>Message: 9 >> Date: Sun, 07 Aug 2005 22:36:44 -0000 From: "hemmigremmie" <hemmigremmie@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Mad or Glad Not to make anyone mad, but I kinda expect people to act a little silly when they see my Gremlin, but thats why I like em. Its not that there really making fun of our cars, but the Gremlin kinda lets people enjoy a car while having fun with it. Does that make sense? I like my car and thats all that matters. If I wanted to be like everyone else, Id have got a Mustang or a Camaro. Let em giggle and have fun. Rod "I love deadlines.
