Terry, The street rod group has really changed over the years. Back in the 70s when NSRA was fresh, most street rods were built by their owners and driven to the nats. Now more and more are bought and trailered to the show. Some of those people could not even work on their car. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong. I was in St Paul in 77 for the Street Machine nats too. I was only ten at the time. The cruise scene was pretty good when the street rod nats were there. St Paul still has the Back To The Fifties show (64 and older cars) and they get 13000 cars registered there too. I would take the Gremmie back. You got a piece of history that some of the younger generation has never scene . You might have had a little of both cheering and laughing. THere will be people who laugh and respect it. My gremlin has been sitting out in front of the body shop. The last few times I have stopped someone has called and want to know if it is for sale. Then there are people that give me shit. THis week I bought a 33 Ford Truck rat rod style. It is old school. Old steelies red wheels indian blanket interior 6V 48ford juice brakes some paint and a lot of rust (surface). There will be a lot of people ask when I am going to paint it. My reply will be, "Its finished now." There is all kinds of Aholes out there. But the feeling you get when the thumbs go up or someone runs over and says "COOL RIDE" will always be there and make you smile.
