Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Your request for Help on the BaadAssGremlinslist

Sounds like you got a good deal Ralph. Shipping could be a killer
depending on the distance. Many times over the years me and my son have
seen cars we would like to have bought but they were 1,500-3,000 miles
away and there was just not the money for shipping in the budget after
paying for the car. Luckily for me my orange car was local and the guy
lived 5 miles from me. On getting your money back on a classic car it
usually doesn't happen. A case in point was the white 74 Hornet
Hatchback I was looking at 4-5 months ago. Real nice car, new paint and
interior 304 3 speed only needed a rear bumper to finish the car. I had
one and would not sell it to him. He said he spent 15,000$ on it and was
asking 5,500$ firm. I offered him 3,000$ cash for it and he said no. I
don't know if he sold it or not. I have to ask my friend. I figure I got
4,500$ in repairs in my orange car and still need the tranny and rear
wheel bearings done. Complete estimated cost of the interior now at
22-2,500$. Getting the bumpers re-chromed and painting and installing
the AMX flairs and louvers and maybe a paint job and I will be in the
slightly over the 10,000$ range myself. And that is with me doing a lot
of the work. Bread and butter AMC's are not big sellers and it is
usually a buyers market. Me I have offers on a regular basis to buy the
orange car and I will not sell it. First of all I like the car and
second of all if I wanted somthing ordinary I could have just bought a
new or used ricer.

Just thought I would pass along my two cents. I purchased a '79 Spirit GT with a 401 on the bay for $1999. I paid extra because it was near my location, so no shipping and it had the 401 in it and I wanted it. It is up to you, but the Classic BlueBook online states that a #5 car for that year with a V-8 was worth a max of $2000. I would offer $800 and go up to about 1500 max if I was you... It all depends on how much you want the car. Very few people get the money out of their Classic when they sell. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Good Luck,
Ralph
