Congratulations on the find. You don't need to open the hood to determine the engine displacement. Look from under the car and direct a flashlight up toward the motor mounts. The displacement is cast into both sides of the block and are tall enough to read. From that vantage point you will also be able to tell if it had single or dual exhaust. Duals may be a good sign of a four barrel card.
It doesn't matter what the displacement is, it will fit the Gremlin as long as you have the correct crossmember and plates for the motor mounts.
