Hi Doc, this one is iffy. And will depend on who you talk to. AMC officially did not release the Hornet AMX numbers, grouping them in with all Hornets from what I understood. However, thru much research, Scott Campbell of the Hornet AMX Registry (click on Registries on my website to contact him) Scott's research has yielded about 5300 77 Hornet AMXs. Tom Benvie has mentioned only 2407 were made. If you pick up a book like Edrie Marquez' amazing AMC muscle, he mentions 330 of them were made, of which I kidded him about as I told him if that was true, over 100 of them were sold thru All American Motors in Corpus Christi, TX where my dad worked! He mentioned that was a type but his book was filled with typos due to the printer rushing it to press years ago. I understand also that he is thinking baout reprinting it, but all the types will be corrected. Really nice book too I may add for one's collection. So again, it is who/what you will believe. I give the edge to this one to Scott who has run the Hornet AMX Registry for many years, and has done a lot of detective work to get all the numbers. Or were their no# just lumped in with the Hornet Hatchbacks? "Doc"
