Scot, don't be afraid to put the grill on. I joke with people all the time about sleeping with 70 aMX grills, those are rarely found under $100 and have sold as high as $1500. To some, they will say, 'hell, I paid only $600 for the whole car' well that is nice, but then they drop $5K into drivetrain (or more), $2K into interior (geez, 2 leather buckets recovered will set you back $800+) and so suddenly they have to simply bite the bullet to finish off the job. The biggest problems: Some folks don't realize you can't pay 1970 prices for 1970 parts. A new/NOS 1970 AMX grill for instance in 1970 was $23.84 if I recall. If I could find them for $233.84 in 2004 I would buy all I could find. Not that the remaining few 1970 AMXs need a grill. But the ones that do would gladly pay say, $350 for one. Or higher. Picking up, or fighting for, the few remaining NOS parts out there is simply nor for everyone. And everyone should have a budget. However, if you have sunk x amount into your car, and you need a final few detail parts, you simply have to look far and wide to hopefully find it. We do not have the luxury of a parent company. We also do not have the luxury of a multi million dollar reproduction market although inroads have been made, again, look at you car. Any AMC car. 6 classic. 58 Rambler. 75 Gremlin. 84 Eagle. 73 Javelin. 69 Rebel. Even some of the more popular models and collectibles like SC/Rambler, Machine, AMX, SC/360. Same deal. A majority of what you look at inside and out is not out there anymore and has not been since roughly 1994. So we have to make do. Again, this is not to discourage anyone, as if someone can fix up and restore a 1936 Cord, 32 Vicky, 20's Graham-Paige, 50 Merc, then you can do a Rambler too. It will cost you, and no one wants to lose money on a vehicle either shuold they decide to sell. As fine as it is and with all the awards, do you think that stunning BBB 70 Donohue will fetch $80,000? It's not the reason many, no, most of us fix up these cars. I could give a rat's ass what any of my cars are worth and I have over 100 trophies thru the years collecting dust in the attic. My 68 Rebel is one of the rarest Rebel's ever produced, and has a paper trail from day one. Who cares? It is probably worth about $8000. If I worried about what just a fraction* of the AMC's I have owned thru the years are worth, I would probably specialize in something else. But I don't so I guess you are stuck with me! Regardless, it is sometimes depressing to see the waste, cannibalism and desctuction of all these fine cars. And people fighting over the remaining scraps. Or doing without. Or learnign the wonders of JB Weld...... tube grill? I like it! NOS or excellent used grill, I like it too! Eddie Stakes =============================== A couple of weeks ago I bought one of these grills for my 77. I have a custom made tube grill in mine when I bought it. I called Eddie back in May and he told me it would be expensive or hard to find. I did not want to spend that much , but that was one piece I needed to make the car look right. Now I'm afraid to put it on after the car gets painted because something might happen to it, oh well LOL. SCOTT Yahoo! Groups Links
