For what it is worth if anything, Texas has a 24 year cutoff exemption on emissions, that is any car that is 24 years old or older is exempt. So this year all 1980 cars and back are exempt, next year 1981, then 1982 and so on. Several ov my own cars, like my 1982 Eagle wagon, I tore all that as Bart put it, bullshit emissions stuff out of it over 5 years ago, all of that crap had long since outlived it's usefulness. So no wires to the carb, no metal tubes in the manifold, no hoses, no sensors, the sheer amount of crap that came out from under the hood that day still amazes me, it as a pile of stuff over two feet high. The car has been running and driving great now and has almost 200,000 miles on it, and lots of power too, it is my swap meet & tow car with a Class III hitch. To get it inspected I know a number of places and individuals here in Houston like the Rude Iranians some of ya'll have seen me mention before. They will inspect a Red Flyer Wagon for a bucket of hot, steaming, Popeye's chicken with fixings. Same with my 71 SC/360 Hornet, which has illegal 'dumps' that is, the headers, duals, and pipes cut off abruptly right before the Twin Grip 3:91 rear in that booger, and no way it would pass inspection with dumps, but with the amazing power of KFC, Churches, Popeyes, or Hartz, it gets inspected. And I may add too that the visuals some places do is not really a visual as they don't have a slightest damned clue as to what the hell they are even looking at. Their books call for say 198X to meet 198X emissions for instance. But 198X vehicle may have 197X engine in it, so this must be explained. Some will look the other way, others will not inspect it. Sometimes a 20 spot goes a looooonnnngggg way like dealing with the Federales in Mexico or a Democratic presidential hopeful in New Hampshire. Good luck with it, my suggestion would be build it how you want, as you want, then worry about the silly crap like inspections later. I have a lot more to say about emissions and inspections, and meaningless enviromental legislation intent on forcing all old cars off the road, but it would crash this server if I wrote it all here!
