I think the failure rate was some ridiculous number. Less > than 1%. > Terry What state do you live in? All the AMC's had them canisters that I know of from at least 72 on up. All they did was take the place of the fuel tank vent. The fumes went from the fuel tank vent outlet on the gas tank to a roll over valve on the chassis to the canister under the hood to be stored and then the fumes were sucked into the air cleaner when the engine ran. My sons 72 Javelin that came from Va. and my new Hornet that came from Florida has them along with my son's other 74 Javelin whiich came from Ct. and my original bought new in N.Y. 74 Hornet has them. The only other polution equiptment on my Hornets is a PVC valve and a water temp valve the ports the timeing to full advance when the engine is cold. The original 74 had a 207 degree thermostat in it when it was new too. N.Y. cars after 74 had cats but I have heard of other states not haveing them. There was also a special for California cars. You could always spot an original California car as the had red engines in the early to mid 70's and maybe beyond. There always has to be some do gooders that have to mess with things, I hope the judge throws the case out. Do you have milage or other limitations on your antique plates, someone mentioned 1000 miles a year where they were. In N.Y. you can only go to and from a show or a parade or club function. I have classic insurance on my Hornets but regular plates. The insurance company I have has no milage limitations, but I know some do. If I feel like going out for a drive I just go and not worry abou milage limitations or state DMV rules. "Doc"
