The brake system is probably the most important part of the car. What good will it be to run if it won't stop. It is wise to get all the brakes operational before you are tempted to take it for a test run.

Make sure you strike the drum and not the backing plate. You will want to replace the wheel cylinders and, if they are in too bad of shape, the drums also. Once you get the drums off take an inventory of what you will need. If the drum is frozen to the brake shoes, a lot of the internal could be deteriorated to a point of no use.
