Re: [BaadAssGremlins] Fw: AMC 4speed conversion transmssion Help wanted

I had a 72 SST and had a shaking problem with a 3 speed whjch was found to be caused by the pilot bushind worn out letting the clutch disc be off center. As far as the bellhousing put it engine side down on a flat surface and measure the distance from trans mounting surface to surface. Do the same for the 3 speed housing -they should be the same. If the same there are two possibilites -use a longer collar on the throwout bearing or adjust the pivot ball out to take up slack. If you want it I still have the rod that I extended by welding a section into it but I didnt care for that solution. Good luck!

Ken below is switching from a 3 speed to a 4 speed and seems to have some of the items already for conversion, but is also running into some issues. Feel free to comment & coach him thru this conversion, be sure to also copy your reply to him & thanks in advance to all who might reply.

  Hello Eddie,

I was wondering if you could help me out with some of your great AMC knowledge. I would like to put a four speed transmission in my 1972 javelin and was wondering if you could tell me what parts I may need to locate before I start this project. My car currently has a three speed in it that seems to have a shake at any speed over about 30mph. I have purchased a T-10 with the numbers t10p-1b on the body and t10p-7a on the tail shaft, I also have a Bell housing that reads 3179072. The bell mounts to the trans fine, but when I try to couple to the motor (360) the through out bearing will not reach the pressure plate. I'm not sure what I need to remedy this or if I am even headed the right direction for this transplant. Anyway any insight you may have for me would be appreciated so much.

Thanks
Ken
