Re: [AMC-list] early 232 using 258 intake??

I wouldn't downshift the T-96. It's pointless, not worth the bother. Install
adequate brakes instead :-) seriously, engine braking at a light or whatever
as a technique needs to be reexamined... it lurches mass fore and aft and
doesn't help handling either. Down-shift in preparation for upcoming hard
accelleration or whatever is different, and not likely something you'll do
with a T96!

It wasn't designed for that use, and making it do so more than occasionally
is definitely abuse. it's a 1940's transmission, won't hold up to 1970's
street-rodding habits (which are dubious in the first place). Like the 195.6
engine in front of it, it needs care and use commensurate with it's design
limitations.

Hell you can't even upshift 2-3 without a delay for the synchros to line
things up. Synchro clearance spec is .090"! a tenth of an inch!!

Even within it's limitations it's not much of a transmission. I'm serious on
the brake issue, but fat drums or discs on it and use the brakes for what
they were for. Brakes are a LOT CHEAPER than transmissions. Car will handle
better too.
