Bill Davidson on the AMC Forum (actually the site owner) did the AMC20 in his 
1970 Javelin last year.  He's a career mechanic and did several excellent posts 
on that project as I recall.  You could contact him.  I don't have his email 
address but go to the forum and look him up.

Oh yeah almost forgot, I could really use some more hints and tips about
putting the thing back together. I've been reading the TSM, but of course I
have none of the special tools they show. Can anyone help with advice on
setting the pinion to the correct spot and installing the differential to
the correct mesh, and getting axles in the correct spot?
Also rebuilding a Twin grip to install, got any tips for
disassembly/reassembly without the AMC special tools?
