they did have the option. you must find a complete setup, arms,mounting plate,motor,switch. then you have to hope it works. Rumor has it that a mid 80's escort motor is a fairly easy swap using the vacuum arms and plate. I converted mine, but it would be difficult to duplicate what I used. I bought an electric setup that turned out to be dead. I used an 84 XJ cherokee motor, free from friend, The electric plate and I cut the arm off the vacuum motor and cut a slot in it. had to flatten the arm and make it as long as possible to get proper sweep and park. I used a 73 Hornet switch. Ended up working perfect. But hard to replicate.
