[AMC-list] Some Days are Diamonds

and some days are stone.

Yesterday and today were stone.  I've been removing the T-35 tranny from the Rambler without a transmission jack but I do have two pretty good floor jacks.  My original intent was to remove the transmission only and leave the bellhousing and torque convertor in the car.  But while removing the tranny that way I did let it sag a couple of times without adquate support on the tranny after the case to bellhousing bolts were removed and I got worried that I had bent the flimsly little flexplate.  Bummer.  I wasn't sure and when I tried the roll the engine with the starter the starter would spin up but the bendix wouldn't catch the starter gear on the torque convertor.   Now what?  I decided that I had probably already bent the flexplate and that I would need to remove the bellhousing and torque convertor after alll.   It was easier installing the tranny after I had rebuilt the engine because I didn't have heater hoses and fuel lines in the
way. Now I had to dismantle stuff and finally got the bell/torque assembly out.  Sure nuff, I had bent the flexplate.  I'll order one of the aftermarket plates from Galvins or some such tomorrow.  They are supposed to be stronger anyway.  I think I'll buy a tranny jack too.  I still have the standard trans to remove/install in the 64 classic and plenty more project cars which will need tranny work.

The good news is that Frank's suggestion for disasembling the rear u-joint saved me some work.  That method does cause you to trash the internal c-clips on the u-joint though if they get jammed/pinched in the assembly.  I had planned to replace that u-joint anyway.    NAPA couldnt' get one but Kragen's had it in their computer but had to order it.
