Re: [AMC-list] [BaadAssGremlins] Re: 2010 AMO Show and Dream Cruise

Back to the comments below....at the super nationals in 1998 in Kenosha....there was a fellow who owned a 8800 mile Rebel Machine that literally could push his car out of garage across street onto showfield. I thought that Rebel (I knew the car from previous visits up there) but thought that car should be the one that all other Machines should be judged AGAINST. It had all original smog, tires, air in tires, belts, hoses, everything, even ran great. All the owner had to do is bring it across street and watch it kick some serious ass in it's class. But he didn't it stayed in the garage, a opportunity I guess missed. I do not know what the reason was, nor do I car, not my car, not my meet, not my judging, but still one would have had to stand around with can of Raid spraying all the flies, er, AMCers that week *IF* that car would have been on the field as one would not have been able to get a good, clean, photo of it due to all the activity and interest. Didn't happen.

I agree with Eddie. I have been to a couple of the nationals and I think it is a shame the number of AMC's in the parking lot that don't bring them into the show field. Personally I think it is a small miracle that these 30 to 40 year old AMC's are running much less in pristine condition. I bet most of you guys are just like me when you go to the local shows you are the only Gremlin there and no matter what shape it is in people look at it just because it has been ages since they saw one. All I know is that I have been going to curses and shows for the last 14 years. Besides this summer which has been a bust I probably go to at least 40 a season. In all that time I have been to only one show where there was another Gremlin. I always say when all the guys that have told me that they are restoring a Gremlin start showing up it will inspire me to fix mine up. Until that day happens and I don't think it will I will just pull my less than perfect Gremlin in between those $
40,000 Mustangs and laugh when people give them a once over because they look just like the other 50 Mustangs that are there and they actually stop and look at my Gremlin and I hear the story about the Gremlin they had when they were a kid.

On below comment......there are too many people intimidiated by other's cars. This is not
new and have seen hundres of people NOT bring their car out to a meet because 'it is not
restored' or 'it is not perfect' the list is endless. When we did the nationals here in
Houston in 2001 the excuses I was hearing were beyond belief. 'My car has bondo' and 'the
interior is not done' (yet they had driven 600 miles to the meet) or 'mine is not stock'
(less than 3% of all remaining AMCs are, duh) or 'I don't have the $20 entry fee' (of
which I would offer to pay their fee so their car would be on a once in a lifetime
showfield) but the list goes on....this was at one meet.

Bottom line is there is, and should be, room....for everyone on the 'showfield' and
speaking for myself, I love projects just as much as rotisserie America Cup winners. They
all start somewhere. The Planet Houston award has always been given to cars that are
'under construction' as it is inspirational to others that they see your car in this
shape, and knowing that as time goes on, it will undoubted get better. That is part of the
fun of going to these meets. You get ideas for what your vision is for your car. Those
trendsetters look great on a Gremlin, that Hornet hatchback looks awesome with a SC/360
scoop, that Ambassador looks nice with 16 inch Dubs, how did they get a blower on that
AMX, and too bad AMC never offered a Javelin convertible like that.

As for BAG members, years ago when the amxfiles.com was the big hoodoo, someone brought up
the idea to make small badges and give them away to amxfiles members. The badges were
cheap pin on, plastic cover with amxfiles colors of big bad green/orange/blue on top of a
140mph speedometer. This was the biggest AMC event in history in 1998 in Kenosha and over
10,000 people attended and if I recall, they ran out of badges, over 1000 of them. It was
neat to see so many different faces put on a email, or phone call, a voice, but the
camradirie was second to none and this was not a paid group, nothing, just good group of
aMCers wanting to put a face to a name. Too bad it has never been done since, but maybe
big future AMC event have some BAG ID's for folks to ID each other, or maybe bum money
from or hunt down perhaps :~P
