Don,
Is your carb completely trashed? If not, you'll probably be better off
rebuilding what you have. The Holley 1931 is a very simple, easy to work
on carburetor. I just rebuilt one of these for my 68 American. You can
see what's involved by going to
http://www.mattsoldcars.com/RestoreAmerican/holley1931/index.shtml. If
the throttle shaft isn't worn, you can rebuild one of these in a long
afternoon (most of the time will be spent cleaning it up).
If the throttle shaft is worn (if you can wiggle it, it's worn -- they
usually wear on the side by the return spring), you'll need to have the
shaft bore in the carb body machined over sized and a bushing made. This
should be no big deal for a machine shop and if you have a drill press
and some brass stock, you could do it yourself. I would not discard one
of these carburetors just because the throttle shaft is worn.
