I know I'm coming into this one a day late, so if you haven't solved the
issue here's your answer. You'll need to follow Neil's suggestion of moving
the mirror all the way over. What I did next was to cut the shaft of a
phillips screwdriver and weld it at an angle I found to work just correct.
It was still a bit of a struggle but the angled driver is the key. worked on
my 70 Javelin, both sides remote and non remote mirror.
