How about a flexible screwdriver?  I've used a tool like this many times 
with great success in similar situations.  Typically, you'll need to break 
the screws loose with a conventional screwdriver of some type, as the spring 
shaft on these jobs are not particularly great at that task.  But once 
loosened a bit, these babies are great.
