Re: [AMC-list] chinese amc emblems, jeeps, muscle cars oh my

The company I work for is an electronics recyler and we make our "living" off of the throwaway electronics being consumed today, to the tune of several million pounds a year.  We try to segregate and upgrade the quality of the recyclables we produce like circuit boards, wire, ferrous and other nonferrous metals.  One trend that has been in place for awhile (and is continuing) is the reduction in use of precious metals.  We rarely see gold plated copper boards any more except for government electronics or satellite communications gear where there's a very high performance specification by the original user.  There's not nearly as much gold plated copper used today as there was even five years ago. Except for two or three types of plastic used on packaging almost nothing goes to landfill.  if you have a choice, never use polystyrene foam (styrofoam) or polyethylene foam for anything, unless you are actually reusing things like packing peanuts.
That stuff nearly all goes to landfill   Buy your eggs in cardboard/pressed paper packaging if you can't get them right out of the chicken's A$$.

I don't shop at Walmart frequently either and when I do it's usually for things like hearing aid batteries which are the same ones sold in the local drugstore but are discounted more at Walmart.

sam walton was very militant about buying american and keeping the
dollars circulating in the local economy.  he must be spinning in his
grave fast enough to set fire to his coffin in response to the current
managers turning his corp into china's largest trading partner.  and
they push the price, price, price message as hard as they can, with no
word on quality.  cheap stuff that keeps breaking is in their best
interest - it keeps the ignorant coming back to buy more replacements.
it just has to be 'good enough' to not be obvious crap.

i have a friend who has a flourishing sideline in refurbished pcs that
people -give- him, b/c the hard drive or monitor or kbd has failed and
'the computer is junk'; it no longer goes when they push the button...
