I remember the pacer Ads, wonderful marketing tool, made you want one,,not
me. My Former father in law, ( I mean former) very well off, owning a
Caddy no problem, his wife wanted the pacer, he gave me a blank check, took
his wife to Rochester Minn, and paid 2856.00 for her pacer, I thought it was
a dog, as I had a 340 Duster, she loved it.
He drove an Buick electrica, biggest engine, yellow with black leather, but
she would only drive the pacer. I t was kept in the family business,
eventually turned into a service vehicle, the last of what I recall it had
over 150k on it. The only major problem was with all the glass, AC could
not keep it cool.

Actually there is no such thing as a "Chrome Moly" ring. I don't know where
this got started but the term has been around as long as I can remember.
"ChromeMoly" is a type of steel.
In piston rings you are referring to the coating for the top ring. This can
be either "Chrome" or "Moly". There is SO much information on rings on the
net already I won't try and duplicate it here. This is a good place to

Chrome faced rings are not meant to reduce friction but to resist wear as
Chrome is very hard. It's still used in dirt track engines or anyplace wear
resistance is the top factor. There have been so any advances made in the
Moly coatings it now rivals Chrome in many respects and surpass it in most
others. MOST rings you see now days will be Moly. Rings have become SO thin
that in many instances a solid steel (hardened) ring is all that will
survive.
I have had EXCELLENT results using TotalSeal rings in my race engines. As a
company they have been MOST helpful in answering questions and being able to
supply hard to find rings.
But HEY,,, that's just ME!

Had a customer with a Jeep come by yesterday that was trying to find the right replacement dist for his rig. It has MSD 6A wired in and they thought it was the Motorcraft dist (it takes the same cap as Ford) but the damaged harness has a flat plug (I haven't seen it myself yet) Anyone know of such an aftermarket dist for AMCs that takes the stock cap? The pickup coil is shorted in this one.

Just the opposite -- sounds well within reason. I don't think I'd worry about the furnace cement though. Since the insert will stay in place by shape, don't worry about a little exhaust gas or heat rising into that well. You main concern is flow, right? At anything above idle exhaust gas velocity will be increased to a point that a small "crack" along the leading edges of the insert won't matter. Fit the insert as close and tight as you can and it should work well. Some heat will transfer above it into the cavity, but that should be a plus -- it will still warm the intake tract and especially the critical area right below the carb. That's where the intake charge hits the floor of the intake "trough" first and would tend to separate on a cold intake floor, vaporizes better on a hot one.
