There's noting wrong with tilting the GM TB either 45 or 90 degrees either. It's a TB, not a carb!! It would probably work right even upside down... So if the step is bothersome, take a piece of tubing that fits the TB opening and "squish" one end to an oval that will fit a plate instead of making an adapter. All you need is a flat piece of 1/4" thick aluminum plate 20+" long and about 3" wide to replace the entire intake cover on the 196. I wouldn't bother with an adapter at all! In fact, you could use a 1/4" steel plate. Might get a little warmer, but I'm sure that aluminum was used just because it was cheaper to cast and machine. Would be easier to weld the tubing/adapter to a steel plate... ------------- Date: Wed, 11 Nov 2009 14:42:55 -0800 From: tom jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> I'm STILL working on the 195.6ohv TBI system. The hangup has been the throttle body. The guy makign the adapter can't eliminate this nasty sharp step inside and I'm reluctant to use it (fits an Iron Duke 1bbl). But! I just yesterday figured out (someone on the diy-efi list suggested) that a Ford Tempo 1987 etc 1bbl throttle body is *side draft*. If it doesn't sit flat on the intake plate (which makes the throttle shaft align with the linkage!) a simple 45 degree adapter will do it. Meant to go to the 'yard today to hunt but I have a mild sore throat and I'm not screwing around with getting ill. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
