Re: [AMC-list] Front End

I know this argument is old as the hills.
   Here is my take.
No need to take the shells out, so no damage.
Ride is harsher, so what, its a toy. Not a daily driver. The ride does not seem bad at all to me.
Lube them well with prothanes lube, no squeaks yet.
Rubber, softer ride, deteriorates dry rots splits cracks etc, just sitting on a shelf or installed. I've bought good name brand rubber bushings and had them fail in a year!

    I guess I am a poly guy.
Rubber is fine to. I'm lazy and don't want to do it twice.

Any suggestions on polyurethane front end bushing kit for 70 AMX?

Jim

Hi Jim,
I went through the same dilemma when rebuilding by 70 AMX suspension. I talked with a few guys and the consensus was to stick with the stock rubber. Most everyone said that the poly's rode harsh and a lot of noise was transmitted into the passenger compartment. For me, a reasonably quiet ride is preferred.
The only poly bushing I used was for the Stut rods.
I checked into Prothane and found that they don't include the shell. You must save the old one's and reuse the shell. My experience with trying to save 40 year old bushings shells is not pretty. (I had to destroy them in order to get them out.) Anyway I vote for the rubber.
