Timing/points are off? I remember my friend's dad had a Rambler American and one dark and stormy night we went for a ride. As we got on the highway, he was flooring it and at the same time trying to unstick the vacuum-run wipers that refused to budge, all the while a huge semi was gaining on us. That little Rambler just didn't want any part of our joy ride nor the dark and stormy night. The car was old and obviously the vacuum lines weren't in their peak condition which explained the poor performance and lack of wipers. It was a scary night, but one that I have obviously never forgotten. As adults now, we look back and laugh at the situation. But we loved that old Rambler for all its quirks and faults. He went on to buy a used Hornet, and later when he had a good job, bought a brand new Candy Apple Red Concorde with all the trimmings. The best that I could muster up was a used 1974 Gremlin, very very plain Jane at best. Funny thing was, my friend felt more comfortable rambling around in my little Gremlin rather than his comfy Concorde. Or maybe that was just his way of keeping his car immaculately clean and tidy.
