The T-86 was used behind the little 196 as the heavy duty option. The 232 got the T-86, same as the 287 V-8. I guess that's what you're talking about Matt -- don't know if there was a HD trans for the 232. I doubt it! The T-89 would have been way overkill, but then so was the T-86 for the 196. The 232 cars already had the AMC 20 axle, so no need for anything heavier. My *guess* is that when the HD driveline was ordered for the 196 cars that it got the AMC 20 and heavier V-8 drivesahft (inside the torque tube) also.

No. The T-14 came out in 1968 and 1966 was the last year for the torque
tube. There was another three speed used with the torque tube cars behind
the V8's (T-86 or T-89) but I don't know if there was a heavy duty six
transmission or not. It's been too long since I had my 66 and its TSM to
recall what the options were.
