Re: [AMC-list] 4 speed - wide/close ratio?

" The T-10 "V" (Close) used with 68-69 model 390 engines incorporated a
" large front bearing cap (#318 5168) and throw out bearing (#320 7521).

possibly this bearing crosses to t86 or t89 apps, used with amc v8s up
to '67.

" All other T-10's (including the aftermarket Super T-10) use a smaller
" bearing and cap.

iirc this is the same as the t96/t14 release bearing.

" Wide "T" series
" Wide "P" series
" Close "V" series
" Super T-10 wide "W" series
" Super T-10 Close "S" series

nit: it might be common to refer only to w and s codes as 'super', but
afaik all amc t10s are super, series 1 ['66-'74]. w and s might be s1
or s2 ['74-8], depending on when they were made.

one of the things that made them 'super' was the size of the cluster
shaft, 7/8" vs. 3/4" in the original t10. it was increased again to
1" in the s3 super, '78-'83.

history: after gm showed warner how to make the t10 from the t89 in
'58[?] they came out with their own stronger version in '64, made by
in-house muncie. warner retaliated with the super t10 in '66...
ultimately the t10 pulled ahead of the muncie, but neither are as
strong as a ford toploader, which you can use with a late-'70s 3sp
setup as the t150 is also a ford toploader.
