Centered between the tail light and edge of decklid, up and down on hte same centerline as the tail lights. That's how the TSM shows them on 63 440 models. I don't know where the backup light switch is, probably on the column. I'd just wire a toggle switch under the edge of the dash. That's what I did on mine.

i found on feebay, a backup light kit for 61-63 americans. mine dont have
them. where exactly would they go? i have no holes in mine where i see they
would go. would you drill holes right below the tail lighs to mount them?
debating if i should get or not.
