IIRC that step seal stayed in use until at least 69 on the 15. My American has one. ------Original Message------ From: Frank Swygert Sender: amc-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx ReplyTo: AMC, Rambler, Nash, Jeep and family Subject: Re: [AMC-list] "big nut" axle pinion seal, available on RockAuto?! Sent: Sep 17, 2009 8:46 PM If it's really the stepped seal, and not a flat seal from a later model that someone figured "should fit" and consolidated part numbers to, GET ONE. In fact, anyone with an American with the "big nut" driveshaft who plans on keeping it a while should probably consider ordering one! They ARE generally unobtainable. One showed up on e-bay a couple years ago and I lucked out and got it. I just put the most I would give for it ($7 or so?) and if no one else bid it would be mine... and they didn't. I don't run a "big nut" car now, but just in case... By the way, that would be any 1950-55 Nash Rambler, or 58-65 American w/ any of the 196 engines or a 199. ------------ Date: Thu, 17 Sep 2009 15:32:34 -0700 From: tom jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> I thought they were 100% unobtanium? Two choices, no less. Now I haven't tried to buy one, but I might, for no good reason. Mine's not leaking. (Why should I buy a fire extinguisher? I'm not on fire.) -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Motors Cars" Magazine (AMC) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AMC.html (free download available!) _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device from U.S. Cellular _______________________________________________ AMC-list mailing list AMC-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://list.amc-list.com/listinfo.cgi/amc-list-amc-list.com
