I was a union sheetrocker through college, and still have several homes that
are rental. It is easier to cut out the bad, once there is mold, there is
no positive way to control it, also consider when you sell you must disclose
that or you will be liable for any reaccouring problems,,eg sagging, nails
pulling, seams tape seperation.
for master sheetrocker it is relatively simple to reinsatll new rock,
remove the texture, and respray.
buying doing what you did, you have very likely lawsuit if you ever sell,
and high likelyhood of reacourring mold.
protect your family and tear it out

Hmmmm - would drilling holes in the wallboard help dry them out? Then
patch them afterwards? Not sure how you'd get air flowing back there,
but it might work.

Wow Eddie, sorry to hear that. I can feel some of your pain. Last month a
pipe broke wide open and ran for hours unhindered. Filled my house with
2-3 inches of water. All the carpet, tiles, vinyl, bathroom vanities, and
some drywall went bye bye. We spent almost 3 weeks in a hotel with the
kids while we took care of repairs. We're still repairing, but back in
the house and doing much better.
