Re: [Amc-list] lowering plates

I know that the actual drawings did exist on both of the amcforums at one time.
Search for amcforum and look there. The computer I had at the time they were made has long since passed away and I do not have the actual drawing that I know of.
I can send you actual pictures on the plates that are on my American tomorrow if I remember long enough to do so.
I have them on my 69 and they are the ones the original plates were based on.
These plates are 3/8" thick and drop the front 1 5/8" from stock.
They have been on the front of my American for a very long time now with no ill effects.

There really is nothing magic about the plates!
3/8" thick steel will do for stock steel wheels, anything thicker will put the tires into the fender.
For Late model, Mustang style, high positive offset wheels you can make the blocks much thicker. The guys that use those typically go to a high grade aluminum.
Anyway, if you have a spindle off or can locate the the spacing of the four bolts center to center any metal shop can make you a set of blocks. To accomlish this the best thing to do is have them drawn up or made. DO NOT tell the shop what you are doing with them! Most all shops will balk at making them for suspension pieces. Make up something, wagon for you lawn tractor, etc.

Remember, use only grade 8 or better hardware and check it! You don't want to trash your baby or kill anyone!
As usual, this is for informational purposes only and what you do with it is at your own risk, yada, yada, yada.

Please do be careful!

Subject: [Amc-list] lowering plates

Hi I have been trying to find drawings, pictures, of the front suspension lowering plates that some people are using. They relocate the spindle higher so you don't have to cut your springs I have been looking a lot and finding nothing nothing. I have joined every AMC group I can find, but faster than I join, I lose the dam passwords. If you have any pics please send me them or a location where I can find them.
