I just happen to have that same trans, TC and all, that was removed from my
1970 Hornet. I'm as certain as anyone can be with a 40 year old car that it
is the original trans. It was behind a 232 1bbl.

The ring gear is welded to the torque converter, like the old stuff. The
Torqueflite (72-up) the torque converter does NOT have the ring gear
attached. 72-up the TC bolts to the "flywheel" as everyone calls it (I call
it a flex plate), a thin stamped big-flywheel-diameter thing with ring gear
attached. The TC bolts to that.
