Larry; I am a little late getting on this thread, but my condolences go to you. My tip is a little late for you, but maybe others can benefit from this.
I install a simple toggle switch on the points to kill the spark. An out of the way location but easy to get to that only you know about. A potential thief will crank away all day and it will not fire up.
I realize that this will not stop the dedicated low life who backs up a hook or something like that, but I have found that out of sight is out of mind, so don't "show off" the car too much. 
I have told the tale before of the guy in town who used to have a '57 C***y that he loved to park in his drive and show it off. He took off for a weekend and returned to find a cleaned out shop......Russ
