The wire currently has another wire connected to the end of it with a 
ring connector at the end.  I don't know if he thinks this goes to the 
alternator.   I am not sure of the manufacturer/remanufacturer, however 
the units are identical and look like the one in this picture from Rock 
Auto,

Are the red and blue wires on the connector the only ones that should be 
on the alternator?  The connector goes at 12-o'clock on the picture of 
the alternator back referenced in the link above.  To the best of my 
research, the alternator fits a whole slew of GM products and a lot of 
up to 1983 AMC's including the Eagle besides other Jeeps.

    I'll ask him about the coolant temperature sensor, i.e. if there's 
anything on there now also.
