Yeah, I think ole Tom is underestimating his capabilities!

Wheres his RM spirit! 
I have done  many a cut to fit.
Take you time, study what that crimp should look like and I have duplicated it with a couple pair a pliers and a little patience!
You need to head the ends of the tangs back into the wire, that's the trick. You can usually find a pair of pliers in the box to do the trick. I use fine needle nose if nothing else is handy.

I've seen what Tom can do.
I think he is well and away capable of doing this!
