really heavy? i'd be concerned about adding load to the hinges.

" Last effort will be, i hope, to use bedliner and roll it on the
" underside of the floors as they need prettied up anyway.

i looked into this a while ago for a friend.

there are several types of bedliner, and the best ones need to be
sprayed on hot. they are of course substantially more expensive and
can't be done at home.

all of them need careful surface prep to make them stick properly; if
you don't, they just bead up. one site said good jobs were 90%
preparation, 10% application.

i wanted to try phosphoric acid etch/treatment, zinc phosphate primer,
then urethane paint primer. then depending on solvent system
compatibility, apply the bedliner before the primer was fully
dry/cured.

this might be a tolerable soundproofing inside your floorpans as well
as a pretty thorough rustproofing. spray-on bedliner can be as thin
or as thick as you like.

this would depend on the insulating factor. if it's relatively high,
then only a small uninsulated area will conduct a lot of noise and
significantly degrade the insulation effectiveness.

have you considered weep holes?
