My dipstick might be marked wrong. When I changed the oil today, I
picked up a gallon (4 quarts). The dipstick reads full. It should read
one quart low. I don't think I had a whole quart in the head after
changing the oil.

I had not been checking the oil level when refueling and by the time I discovered the problem the oil pan was so full that oil was blowing out of the dip stick tube and cruise rpm.  One quart of leakage from a bad fuel pump is certainly possible.
